This week's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #232) begins with the NEW stereo remaster of THE BEATLES “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and ends with a tribute to the late Walter Becker of STEELY DAN. To some this may sound pretty pedestrian but really, if you are a regular listener to this show you know exactly where I'm going with it. (which is everywhere!).

During the first hour there's SPIRIT, JOHN ZORN, BRAND X, SUPERSISTER, XIU XIU, contemporary composer LOU HARRISON, (blending in a percussive piece after a SHADOWFAX cut), RADIOHEAD'S latest, LITTLE AXE covering “Amazing Grace,” and LED ZEPPELIN'S “No Quarter.”

Later on there's more cool “vault” selections from the likes of the PEANUT BUTTER CONSPIRACY and ROBERT MASON'S STARDRIVE, NEW songs from the AMERICAN EPIC – THE SESSIONS album and KING GIZZARD & THE WIZARD LIZARDS, world music from TINARIWEN and JUANA MOLINA, jazz from OREGON, and even PETER GABRIEL chimes in with a song from III (Melt) in German. It's another three hour eclectic mix that'll keep your ears happy!

It's time to tinker away and make another TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES come to life. On this program (Episode #231) you'll hear surf guitar featured in the first set with music from DON GERE, THE MAGNETIC FIELDS, THE CRAMPS, 13th FLOOR ELEVATORS, and Akron's premiere “surfers,” BEYONDERS. Yeah Baby Yeah! I'll even throw in THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION singing “It Can't Happen here” for good measure. Get out your bongos and play along if you like.

Later on RALPH CARNEY & DAVID THOMAS play their duet “Sunset in the Antipodes”(out of the “vault” from the "Bowling Balls from Hell" LP), I'll salute JOHN ABERCROMBIE'S life, play a cut from the NEW BEATLE'S SGT. PEPPERS box set, and add in music from GEORGE CRUMB, BONZO DOG BAND, STEVE HACKETT, TODD RUNDGREN (from A Wizard, A True Star), and early PINK FLOYD.

There's also JERRY GARCIA “covering” Irving Berlin's “Russian Lullaby” and CHRISTOPHER WALKEN interpreting “I Wan'na Be Like You” from Disney's “Jungle Book” soundtrack. You'll hear more NEW songs from IF THESE TREES COULD TALK, RANDY NEWMAN, RADIOHEAD STEVE EARLE & THE DUKES, FAUST, and XIU XIU. Got headphones?

So the little guy says to me, 'what's a guy gotta do around here for excitement?' And I said 'well on this weeks TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #230) you'll hear CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, followed by THE SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND, NATACHA ATLAS, then later the “Theme from Alfred Hitchcock Presents” conducted by ERIC KUNZEL, then SUN RA does “Pink Elephants on Parade” and ANANDA SHANKAR does “Light my Fire” on the sitar'. 'All that in the first set?' he asks.

'Yup' I said. 'Then the second set starts and it's BOB DYLAN playin' “Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues” with that harmonica of his followed by that new song thingy “Putin,” by RANDY NEWMAN from his new, Dark Matter album'. 'Sounds like he's getting political' he says and I say 'well you know he's got that runnin' in his veins so to speak' and he says 'don't ya say now eh?'

So I said 'he's got new stuff from THE MAGNETIC FIELDS, JEFF TWEEDY, LOCAL NATIVES, VIEUX FARKA TOURE, and THE FEELIES too'. 'What about KEN NORDINE, NICK DRAKE, NATIONAL LAMPOON, and OSCAR PETERSON, is he gonna play any of that' he says. I told him he 'read my mind or musta saw the playlist or something'.

“Looks like the weather gonna change soon” I say. “Yeah” he says, “Looks like the weather's gonna change.”

***dialogue may have been inspired by a scene from the movie “Fargo.”

Today's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #229) begins innocuously with a song by STANLEY CLARKE and finishes with the SUN RA ARKESTRA so one would assume that it's going to rely heavily on jazz themes. No, that's mere speculation. (although MILES DAVIS'S “Miles Runs the Voodoo Down” is also aired.)

Actually, several “themes” are present throughout the program today. During the second set you could say there's a “strange,” late 1960's LA theme with music from SALVATION, DAVID LYNCH, NEIL YOUNG, RY COODER, AND JOE BYRD and the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA album.

In the third set, the rhetoric of “war” with a country in the far east is the “theme” and music with dialogue from the soundtrack to APOCALYPSE NOW is heard in a set that also features JEFF TWEEDY, DAVID BYRNE, DENGUE FEVER, and APHRODITE'S CHILD'S 666 album.

Later on there's a set with a “classical” feel to it as music from TOMITA, P.D.Q. BACH, AND CHRIS THILE with YO YO MA & EDGAR MEYER are all played. There's also music from SONIC YOUTH, HENRY MANCINI, PETER HAMMILL, DAEVID ALLEN, THE RESIDENTS and plenty of NEW releases (including more from THE FEELIES and TINARIWEN) to add variety to the entire festivities.

Got a hankering for the latest from THE FEELIES, or something by THE PLASTIC PEOPLE OF THE UNIVERSE, or maybe an acoustic interpretation of HARRY PARTCH'S music? Yeah I've got all of those lined up for you in the first set on this week's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #228).

How about LOL COXHILL'S “cover” of "I Am the Walrus,” and CHROME'S version of King Crimson's “Moon Child,” perhaps a sailor's song sung slowly (say that fast five times) by JOSEPH ARTHUR, or FRANK ZAPPA'S jazz masterpiece “Waka Jawaka?” Yup, that's part of today's line up too!

Plus music from Naytronix, John Hartford, Lady June's Linguistic Leprosy, Negativland, The Dead Weather. Pearls Before Swine, Brian Prothroe, and NEW music from Jeff Tweedy, Vieux Farka Toure, The Magnetic Fields, Les Amazones D'Afrique, and Yo Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble.

It's another week where variety meets obscurity and a whole lot of other interesting things.

On today's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #227) I'll start off with Bjork, followed by The Residents (from the Subterranean Modern LP), then play the Golden Palamino's, R. Stevie Moore, some vintage Rolling Stones, another cut from the latest album by Tinariwen, and finish up with a “live” rendition of Van Der Graaf Generator's “Sphinx in the Face.” Excited yet? You should be.

The second set begins by covering several whimsical songs by Shelley Duvall, Sparks, Ariel Pink, Devo, and Animal Collective before The Magnetic Fields, Alexandre Desplat, and Rhiannon Giddens finish the block in a seamless fashion.

You'll also hear music from Half Cleveland, Curved Air, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Leo Kottke, Heldon, XTC, Hector Zazou with Boney Bikaye, San Fermin, and Pierre Morelen's Gong along with more NEW material from The Feelies, Sufjan Stevens “Planetarium” project, Wire, Faust, and The Kronos Quartet (with Sam Amidon).
