Another week brings yet another new episode of TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #272). What could possibly be different from the last one, you ask? Well, nothing...and everything. There's a set based loosely around the recent summit that includes music from OSAMU KITAJIMA, Korean space metal band JAMBINAI, dialogue from the movie 'Dr. Strangelove, and songs from MINISTRY and the JEFFERSON AIRPLANE. JOHN PRINE sings 'Caravan of Fools' from his latest, and the set finishes with jazz sax master OLIVER LAKE and Finnish guitarist JUKKA TOLONEN who both make appearances from the music 'vault.'

There is music from RALPH CARNEY, TALL DWARFS, THE ART OF NOISE, IMOGEN HEAP, MAYO THOMPSON, and HECTOR ZAZOU included on today's show as well. It works for me so hopefully it'll work for you.

Strange sounds emulate from several unusual instruments on today's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #270). BASSEKOU KOUYATE& NGONI BA performs on a three stringed lute (Ngoni) to start the second set (pictured here), JUDEH CAMARA joins guitarist JUSTIN ADAMS and rocks out on goje (two stringed Gambian fiddle) and later on Korean sensation LUNA plays Jimi Hendrix's 'Little Wing' on a gayaguem (an Asian zither). This week's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (#267) has plenty of obscurities from the 'vault' to keep even the most finicky music lover happy. There's even a previously unreleased cut from LOVE'S 50th Anniversary edition of 'Forever Changes' and early PINK FLOYD on the menu.

As usual, there are several NEW items of note including selections from THE NELS CLINE 4, BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE, CHRIS BUTLER, UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA, and DEREK SMALLS (you know, the bassist from SPINAL TAP). An 'alternative mix' of the song 'You Set the Scene' from the 50th Anniversary Edition of LOVE'S psychedelic classic, 'Forever Changes' gets today’s TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (#266) rolling on a program that’ll feature several obscurities out of the 'vault' including pieces by RAINBOW FFOLLY, SIDDHARTHA, GURU GURU, THE MUFFINS, and SKY.

During the second set today we've got adult musicians acting like children (RALPH CARNEY, SALLY TIMMS & JOHN LANGFORD come to mind) and others (like LOL COXHILL, HAYES GREENFIELD, and VIVIAN STANSHALL) that actually use children in a song. There's more NEW releases including pieces by THE DECEMBERISTS, LONG TALL DEB & COLIN JOHN, EELS, CHRIS BUTLER, and YO LA TENGO.

I honor the memory of May 4th with DEVO'S cover of Neil Young's 'Ohio' in a set that will also feature relatable songs from MORGAN DELT, THE BREEDERS, DAEVID ALLEN, RYUICHI SAKAMOTO, and DAVID BYRNE.

Transmusic Airwaves (Episode #265) - 6th Anniversary Special - April 27, 2018 - with Paul Ciminero (host)
April 26, 2018 05:35 AM PDT

This week on TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (#265) I'll mark the completion of my sixth year blending music, spoken word, comedy, and occasional dialogue into a program I refer to as 'unconventional freeform radio.' The show had it's original roots in college radio of the 1970's and continues to take it's inspiration from that era, as well as adding all the modern elements and music that influences me today. Each set will have a seamless 'flow' to it, regardless of the musical style from one song to the next.

During the second set today there's an homage to San Francisco (where I returned to radio in 2012) with music by THE BONZO DOG BAND, THE RESIDENTS, THE MAGNETIC FIELDS, FOXYGEN, and THE WEST COAST POP ART EXPERIMENTAL BAND.

I'll play songs from some of my favorite artists, (including GONG ,PERE UBU, MILES DAVIS, CAN, JOE STRUMMER, THE BEATLES, and XTC), several new releases (among them CHRIS BUTLER, DHANI HARRISON, and THE BREEDERS), WENDY CARLOS and PHILLIP GLASS will interpret the classics in their own way, and you'll hear acoustic stylings from BELA FLECK and PEG LEG SAM. There's also several surprises from the 'vault' as well.

Feel free to tune in when you can but don't miss it! And thanks for continuing to support this program over the years, I really appreciate it. Cheers!

Two great British folk legends, SANDY DENNY & NICK DRAKE, are played at the conclusion of the second set during this weeks TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #264). PHIL MANZANERA and the psych-folk band GANDALF also add songs to that mix, a mix that begins with NEW offerings from YO LA TENGO, DHANI HARRISON, and LAURIE ANDERSON with the KRONOS QUARTET.

Throughout the program, there's more NEW releases heard from DAVID BYRNE, MINISTRY, BILL FRISELL, OF MONTREAL, DOS SANTOS, JON HASSELL, and CHRIS BUTLER. If you love 'covers,' then get ready for RAMSEY LEWIS, LUNA, AMY RIGBY & WRECKLESS ERIC, and CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN with EUGENE CHADBOURNE to do their best interpretations. Add to this merriment, more 'vault' styling's from SILVER APPLES, CHROME, and HAWKWIND and soundtrack cuts from JOHANN JOHANNSSON and RAMIN DJAWADI.

There's early CARAVAN, THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA (from 'Birds of Fire'), MUSICA ORBIS, VANGELIS, LOUNGE LIZARDS, and THE TUBES. You'll get some international flavor from the German group TON STEINE SEHERBEN, Swedish folk band VASEN, and Ethiopian musician SAMUEL YIRGA.
