They say the hardest part is 'getting started' and surely that was the case while trying to assemble this weeks TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #297). I spent countless hours fidgeting over the first set before it fell into place and four days on, had barely finished the first hour. Then suddenly, like the fog and clouds surrounding Northern Ohio this time of year, it all disappeared and the ensuing clarity allowed me to finish the chore at hand. I believe you'll like the results too!

More NEW selections are heard from THE BEATLES ( the White Album Esher Demos), RICHARD THOMPSON, DEAD CAN DANCE, BRIAN ENO, NENEH CHERRY, and also added this week are two new finds by PETER BLEGVAD and SUFJAN STEVENS. There's music from international artists D'GARY, VARTTINA, and RADIO TARIFA, jazz from HAL WILNER'S 'Mingus – Weird Nightmare' album and AL DIMEOLA, and acoustic stylings from SPECK MOUNTAIN and DAVID CROSBY.

Add to all that a number of 'covers' including BILL FRISELL covering The Beatles and CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN interpreting Pink Floyd's 'Interstellar Overdrive.' Transmusic Airwaves (Episode #296) - November 30, 2018 - with Paul Ciminero (host)

I gather ideas from many sources when picking the music for each weeks radio program and this week the inspiration for the latest TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #296) came from a series of compilation albums with various themes and artists. I decided to 'cover' the Rolling Stones song '2000 Light Years from Home' as interpreted by the band SKY CRIES MARY when I came across an album of Stones songs covered by instrumental 'surf' bands and the same piece done by JIMMY CREASEY. Voila! A Match!

From the 'Putumayo Records Presents' series I added two separate pieces; a cut from 'A Jewish Celebration' by the band GOLEM called 'School of Dance' and from Putumayo's Paris compilation I added PRESQUE OUI'S 'L'Ongle.' Other nuggets were gathered from the 'Nightmare Before Christmas' bonus disc, 'Nightmare Revisited' and a Mojo Magazine psychedelic disc titled 'Beyond Saturn – 15 Mind Blowing Cosmic Tracks.

Add to those items, more NEW songs from the BOB JAMES TRIO, DEAD CAN DANCE, ROSANNE CASH, and more selections from OBNOX, RICHARD THOMPSON, BRIAN ENO, and NENEH CHERRY. Out of the 'vault' there's music from THE NEUTRONS, SYNERGY, STEELEYE SPAN, CALLIOPE (playing 'California Dreaming'), SPIRIT (doing 'Star Trek Dreaming'), FRANK ZAPPA, and RENALDO & THE LOAF. Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday all are designed to get consumers shopping during the biggest retail days of the year. But what about that Sunday? On Sunday everyone rests and many go to their house of worship (a church or HDTV) and pray for their favorite NFL team. During that 'prayer service' everyone is encouraged to buy more things through the magic of commercial interruptions while being entertained.

You can get away from all this mayhem by relaxing to the latest TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #295). It's free (or more specifically 'free form' radio) with lots of NEW music and older selections from the music 'vault' that will relieve all the stresses you're going to encounter.

Transmusic Airwaves (Episode #293) - November 9, 2018 - with Paul Ciminero (host)

This week's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #293) begins and ends with a tribute to the late Hardy Fox, founding member of San Francisco's mysterious band THE RESIDENTS. In between the pieces I'll play honoring his legacy are nearly three hours of eclectic music with both local, national, and international roots to them.

Locally, you'll hear an ethereal rendition of THE KIDNEY BROTHERS signature piece, 'Jimmy Bell,' TIME CAT'S 'I Wanna Know' from a new Akron compilation, and the BIZARROS belting out 'All I Ever Needed' from their latest offering, 'From Akron II.'

Surrounding the Kidney Brothers are new cuts from SOFT MACHINE, RICHARD THOMPSON, and ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO while the Time Cat selection anchor's a set which features JOE STRUMMER & JOHNNY CASH'S version of 'Redemption Song,' and a previously unavailable track by CARAVAN.

There's also percussive rumblings from MICKEY HART & ZAKIR HUSSAIN, Celtic stylings with ANDY IRVINE & PAUL BRADY, vocals soaring from Mali's SALIF KEITA and OUMOU SANGARE, jazz melodies from STANLEY CLARKE and CHARLES LLOYD, and a variety of progressive classics from BRIAN ENO, SOPWITH CAMEL, and the WEST COAST POP ART EXPERIMENTAL BAND.

Transmusic Airwaves (Episode #292) - November 2, 2018 - with Paul Ciminero (host)

Each set of music takes on it's own personality and evolves in it's own unique way during a typical broadcast on TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES and this week during Episode #292 all that effort brings forth another extremely satisfying result.

The program begins with a piece from the latest work by the current incarnation of the SOFT MACHINE, then follows a Canterbury trail to a recently unearthed early MATCHING MOLE cut, traveling next to a 'dub' inspired track along the 'silk road' with the band BANCO DE GAIA, then on to early GONG (recorded in Paris) before landing in Cleveland circa 1972 with DRAGONWYCK. Following those artists, ROBERT PLANT embarks on a journey's along side an ethereal 'Middle Eastern' riff and MARTY STUART & HIS FABULOUS SUPERLATIVES head to the desert to reprise his psychedelic saga 'Way Out West.' (and that all happens during the first thirty minutes today folks).

Other selections on tap include more new music from MARC RIBOT, ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, THE RICK & MORTY SOUNDTRACK, JOE STRUMMER, and SPIRITUALIZED, a song or two from local bands GLENN LAZEAR and BENNY LAVA, and plenty of 'vault' rarities from DYZAN and early GENESIS to the 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS. There's even a short lesson on 'Basic Hip' lingo by DEL CLOSE from the Rhino Records 'Beat Generation' anthology. Cool Baby, cool! It's a total gas today!

Welcome to the 7th annual 'Halloween Special' on TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #291). This year's program has plenty of local flair with music from HARVEY GOLD, EXTRA SPOOKY, and CHRIS BUTLER & RALPH CARNEY'S appropriate gem “Day of The Dead (October 31)' all included as part of the program.

This time the show centers on the music rather than movie dialogue or themes and there's plenty of relatable songs from the likes of LOU REED ('Halloween Parade'), RAY DAVIES (“March of the Zombies'), SPIKE JONES (“My Old Flame'), DANNY ELFMAN (“Beetlejuice: Main & End titles'), and FRANK ZAPPA ('Zomby Woof').

For the jazz aficionado you'll hear the LOUNGE LIZARDS, punk enthusiasts can howl along to the DEAD KENNEDYS and THE CRAMPS, while loyal prog fans can delight at the sounds of GENTLE GIANT, CURVED AIR, PEARLS BEFORE SWINE, and CAPTAIN BEYOND. As always I'll spin NEW releases, this time from ALEJANDRO ESCOVADO, SOFT MACHINE, JOE STRUMMER, and GARY NUMAN and I'll add plenty of other Halloween 'treats' to this years bag of musical candy with enough to satisfy even the gloomiest of spirits.

You know it's going to be a good day when JOE STRUMMER gets things started and that's the case today on TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #290). I'll begin this program with the cut 'Generations' from the Strummer foundation's latest archive release of rarities, 'Joe Strummer 001,' then add NEW material from DEVOTCHKA, PAUL WELLER, and YONATAN GAT to the first set as well as some vintage JEAN LUC PONTY, BO HANSSON, and NY rockers PARQUET COURTS.

Stylistically, today's show is another wonderful mishmash of musical diversity featuring a hearty blend of 'covers' from YO YO MA (JS Bach), HAMPTON STRING QUARTET (The Beach Boys), THE TUFTS BEELZEBUB (doing an a cappella version of a Beatles tune), MODERN STUDIES (The Kinks), LAURENCE JUBER (Henry Mancini), and SPONGE (The 'Speed Racer' theme), mixed in with plenty of Prog, Folk, World, Electronic, and Jazz.

As always there's NEW releases played and this week I've included songs from ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO, OUMOU SANGARE, GLENN LAZEAR, PAUL SIMON, and MOGWAI. From the 'vault' you'll hear music by THE FLYING LIZARDS, KALEIDOSCOPE, SOFT MACHINE, and TAJ MAHAL.

On the latest edition of TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #289) we'll mosey 'Way Out West' during the shows first set with songs surrounding two distinct versions of JIM PEPPER'S 'Witchi Tai To' (from JAN GARBAREK and BREWER & SHIPLEY), then later on go off the rails with my rant about 'robocalls', and end up, in the words of WAS (NOT WAS), 'feeling better than James Brown.' (You'll hear that song too!)

MARTY STUART & HIS FABULOUS SUPERLATIVES gets it all started with the song 'Way Out West' followed by RICKIE LEE JONES doing 'Flying Cowboys,' then JAN GARBAREK, ROBBIE ROBERTSON, NEIL YOUNG, more this week from THE BYRDS, and finally BREWER & SHIPLEY finishes the first half hour.

During the third set I'll play songs from HENRY THREADGILL, HENRY COW, TONTO'S EXPANDING HEADBAND, and WHITE NOISE which all get mixed in with DEVOTCHKA'S latest, RON GEESIN, and PIERRE BOULEZ conducting FRANK ZAPPA.

There's also more today from the new GLENN LAZEAR album and the latest from the JOE STRUMMER archive, BAD DUDES, YONATAN GAT, and COWBOY JUNKIES releases, and other 'worldly' cuts from MOREY KANTE and BRIGITTE FONTAINE. Hopefully all the great music and my little rant will make you feel better as well.
